Jonathan Taylor Thomas has been arrested in California after an encounter with Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, TMZ has learned.
The former child star was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over Monday in the Westlake Village/Malibu area, according to law enforcement sources.
Authorities say the vehicle was stopped at an intersection and was blocking traffic. Deputies reportedly instructed Thomas to remain inside the vehicle after he got out.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Thomas allegedly refused to comply and became uncooperative, leading deputies to attempt to take him into custody.
During the encounter, Thomas allegedly kicked a deputy in the stomach, according to LASD.
Thomas was arrested on suspicion of obstruction and public intoxication and was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station jail, according to jail records.
He was released from custody shortly afterward, with TMZ reporting that he was out of jail by Tuesday.
Thomas has largely stayed away from the spotlight since becoming one of television’s biggest child stars in the 1990s.
He rose to fame playing Randy Taylor on the hit sitcom “Home Improvement,” alongside Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson. He also voiced young Simba in Disney’s animated classic “The Lion King” and appeared in films including “Man of the House” and “Wild America.”
Thomas’ representative was contacted for comment about the arrest but had no comment.
The allegations described by law enforcement have not been established as facts in court, and Thomas has not publicly commented on the incident.
