Lefty Gunplay went from performing for fans in Missouri to sitting in a jail cell less than 12 hours later after being arrested in Springfield.
The rapper, whose real name is Franklin Holladay, was booked by Springfield Police around 8 a.m. Saturday, according to jail records. The records list a fourth-degree assault charge.
Exactly what allegedly happened remains unclear. The available booking information does not identify the alleged victim or provide details about what led to the arrest.
That leaves plenty of unanswered questions surrounding the sudden turn of events.
Just hours before his booking, Lefty was onstage in Springfield for a Friday night stop on his “Did This For Me” tour. By Saturday morning, the California rapper had been processed into the local jail.
Holladay is listed in the booking records as being from Baldwin Park, California. His mug shot also prominently shows the distinctive tattoos covering his face and neck.
Despite the arrest, Lefty is scheduled to be released Sunday morning, according to jail records.
The timing comes as the rapper has been enjoying increased attention in hip-hop following his appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s “tv off.” The collaboration helped put Lefty in front of a much wider audience as his profile continued to grow.
For now, the assault allegation remains largely unexplained. No details about the circumstances of the case, the person allegedly involved or the events leading up to the booking were included in the jail records provided.
The Pop Radar has reached out to Springfield Police for additional information, but no response was available at the time of publication.
Lefty Gunplay’s Missouri night started with a concert and ended behind bars — with the biggest details of the arrest still unknown.
