Mike Tyson is turning the story of his extraordinary life into two new Netflix projects, giving fans a closer look at the former heavyweight champion’s rise, struggles, personal evolution and unexpected comedic side.
The first project, TYSON, is a four-part documentary directed by Floyd Russ. The series traces Tyson’s journey from his chaotic upbringing in Brooklyn to becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history, while examining the career and personal experiences that shaped his legacy.
According to the supplied synopsis, the documentary also explores Tyson’s self-described “addiction to chaos” and the pressures that came with his global fame. The series promises an unfiltered look at the choices and personal costs behind one of boxing’s most recognizable careers.
TYSON is scheduled to debut Oct. 13.
But Tyson isn’t stopping with the documentary. He’s also returning to the stage with Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike, his first one-man show since 2013’s Undisputed Truth.
Filmed live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, the production takes a different approach to Tyson’s familiar public image. Under the direction of Kiki Tyson, the former champion leans into comedy and storytelling, turning some of his wildest experiences into material for the stage.
The performance also tackles heavier subjects, including addiction and mental health, while maintaining a comedic tone. The result is a version of Tyson built around storytelling rather than boxing — with the former champion showing off his timing as a performer.
Tyson’s boxing résumé provides the backdrop for both projects. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at age 20 in 1986 and went on to unify the WBA, WBC and IBF titles by 1987.
He finished his professional career with a 50-6 record and 44 knockouts, cementing his place among boxing’s most accomplished heavyweight figures.
Now, decades after his rise to the top, Tyson is revisiting that journey on his own terms — with one project looking deeply at the life behind the legend and another finding the laughs in the stories that came with it.
