NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas Reveals Bell’s Palsy Diagnosis, Thanks Fans for Support

Isiah Thomas, one of the greatest players in NBA history, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that affects the facial muscles. During a recent appearance on The Mark Jackson Show, Thomas shared his health news, explaining that the condition was responsible for the change in his appearance, particularly his mouth.

“I’ve gotten a lot of love from people saying, ‘Well, Isiah’s sick. What’s he going through?’” Thomas said. “I haven’t really told anybody, right? So, I got Bell’s palsy, and that’s why you see me like this. I appreciate the prayers and the love, but that’s what’s happening with my mouth right now.”

Isiah Thomas Continues to Work Through Health Challenge

Despite the challenges brought on by Bell’s palsy, Thomas is determined to keep working. He expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and reassured fans that he’s not letting his diagnosis hold him back. “I’m dealing with it, I’m showing up, I ain’t taking off,” Thomas shared during his NBA TV appearance on December 27. He added, “I just wanted everybody to know that I appreciate your prayers and thank you for everything.”

Taking to Instagram, Thomas also shared a picture of himself on set at NBA TV, captioning it: “See you soon, @nbatv. I appreciate your prayers as I continue to recover from Bell’s Palsy.”

Understanding Bell’s Palsy: What You Need to Know

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, Bell’s palsy is a temporary condition that causes paralysis or weakness on one side of the face. It occurs when the facial nerve becomes inflamed or damaged, often linked to viral infections, diabetes, high blood pressure, Lyme disease, or other underlying health conditions. Although the exact cause is unknown, Bell’s palsy typically resolves with time and treatment.

The Legacy of Isiah Thomas: A Hall of Fame Career

Isiah Thomas is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Throughout his legendary career, Thomas spent his entire tenure with the Detroit Pistons, winning two NBA titles and earning 12 All-Star selections. He was also a key player on three All-NBA First Teams, leaving a lasting legacy in the sport.

After retiring from playing, Thomas went on to coach the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, and he also served as head coach at Florida International University for three seasons. As an executive, Thomas held influential front-office roles with the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks, where he served as president of basketball operations. In 2000, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the game.
