Crump shared the photo while emphasizing that the information had not been verified.
“I don’t know if these are facts or rumors because no official statements have been confirmed,” Crump wrote while discussing the image. He added that investigators sometimes must follow every possible clue until the truth is found.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Shepherd said the picture was not from July 5 and was instead from a pool party held on June 27. He said the image was simply posted online on July 5.
Rolling Stone reported obtaining metadata from another person, along with additional group photos that were said to be from the same event.
Shepherd, who did not attend the pool party, identified people in the image and pointed out Nolan to the publication.
He described the idea that the photo showed Nolan returning to the mainland after his disappearance as misinformation and called the situation upsetting.
