Patrick and Brittany Mahomes were spotted leaving a star-studded Miami event Friday night in a packed street-legal golf cart — and the scene is drawing eerie comparisons to the tragic accident involving NFL legend John Elway’s close friend.
The couple, in town for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, departed the popular Carbone Beach club seated in the back of the cart, accompanied by several others. Photos captured by paparazzi show a full vehicle — with a driver up front, two additional passengers in the front seat (one of whom seemed to be perched awkwardly), and at least two people hanging off the rear sides of the cart.
At one point, the cart veered up onto the curb in an attempt to maneuver around traffic, making for a noticeably rough ride. While the cart wasn’t speeding, it had enough acceleration to make the packed conditions look risky, especially for those riding without secure seating.
A Chilling Reminder
The Mahomes’ outing comes just days after the death of Jeff Sperbeck, longtime agent and close friend of NFL Hall of Famer John Elway. Sperbeck tragically fell off the back of a golf cart driven by Elway, fatally hitting his head on the pavement. Authorities are still investigating the incident, though it’s being described as a tragic accident. Sperbeck was 62 years old.
Photos surfaced showing Elway enjoying himself at a high-profile Stagecoach party hours before the incident, making the sudden loss all the more shocking.
No Harm, But Still a Cautionary Sight
Thankfully, nothing appeared to go wrong with the Mahomes’ golf cart ride — and there are no reports of injuries. However, with the recent Elway accident fresh in the minds of many, their mode of transportation and the precarious manner in which some passengers were riding has sparked concern.
It remains unclear whether the individuals clinging to the cart were friends, staff, or members of the couple’s security detail.
While the ride may have seemed like a casual exit from a glamorous night, it serves as a reminder that even seemingly low-speed vehicles can pose serious risks when safety isn’t fully considered.
