Antonio Brown Extradited From Dubai Over Miami Attempted Murder

Former NFL star Antonio Brown is back on U.S. soil—and facing some of the most serious legal trouble of his life. Miami authorities confirmed Thursday that the 37-year-old wide receiver was extradited from Dubai to answer an attempted murder charge stemming from a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event.

From Dubai to Newark: Brown’s Arrival in the U.S.

Brown was processed through Newark Liberty International Airport before being booked into Essex County Jail, according to Miami Police. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed his arrival earlier Thursday after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts.

The Miami-Dade arrest warrant, issued in June, alleges that Brown attempted murder with a firearm on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street.

Shooting at a Celebrity Event: What Happened?

The warrant states that an off-duty officer at the event heard gunfire and rushed to the parking lot, where he saw Brown engaged in a physical altercation. A video shared by Only in Dade shows the chaotic scene, with several people surrounding Brown during the incident.

Investigators say multiple witnesses identified Brown as the gunman. Although officers found no firearm on him during a pat-down, detectives recovered two spent shell casings and an empty holster at the scene.

    Brown Denies Attempted Murder Allegation

Brown took to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly deny the allegations. He claimed he was assaulted by multiple individuals trying to steal his jewelry, and that police only detained him briefly to take his statement before releasing him. Brown said he plans to consult legal counsel and pursue charges against those he accuses of attacking him.

Miami authorities stated that Brown will remain in New Jersey until the transfer to Miami-Dade County Jail is finalized. The department credited its detectives, the State Attorney’s Office, and federal partners for coordinating the complex extradition.

Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me.…

    A Pattern of Legal Troubles

This new charge adds to a long list of legal issues for the former Pro Bowl receiver. Over the years, Brown has faced multiple allegations of sexual assault, including a rape claim.

In 2020, he pleaded no contest to burglary and criminal mischief charges following a dispute with a moving truck driver. This led to an eight-game NFL suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Brown faced another suspension in 2021 for misrepresenting his COVID-19 vaccination status.

    NFL Career Recap

Brown played 12 seasons in the NFL, leaving behind a career filled with both remarkable statistics and controversy. He totaled 928 receptions, 12,291 yards, and 88 touchdowns before his professional career ended. Despite his on-field accomplishments, his off-field legal troubles have often overshadowed his achievements.

    What’s Next for Antonio Brown?

With his extradition complete, all eyes are on the upcoming legal proceedings in Miami. The case could bring new developments in one of the most closely followed legal sagas in recent NFL history. Fans and critics alike are watching to see how Brown navigates yet another legal battle.
