Hip-hop artist Finesse2tymes is back behind bars after federal authorities alleged multiple violations of his supervised release. The rapper, whose real name is Ricky Hampton, turned himself in on Friday following a warrant stemming from a disturbing incident involving a child star’s guardian, as well as failed drug tests.

The Memphis-born rapper was previously released from prison in July 2022, having served more than three and a half years of a five-year sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. His early release came with strict conditions, including supervised release and compliance with drug testing protocols—conditions prosecutors now claim he has violated on multiple occasions.

Multiple Allegations: Gun Threat and Failed Drug Tests

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, federal prosecutors allege Finesse2tymes violated the terms of his release in three significant ways:

  1. Two failed drug tests—one in 2022, shortly after his release, and another in 2024. Both allegedly returned positive results for marijuana, a substance still prohibited under federal supervision guidelines, regardless of local legalization in some states.
  2. A troubling arrest for terroristic threats in Texas, linked to a high-profile incident in October 2024. The arrest marked the most alarming of the allegations, leading to a federal hold and his subsequent surrender.

Alleged Threat Involving Child Star’s Guardian

The central focus of the terroristic threats charge involves Finesse2tymes’ mentorship of a rising child star named King. According to the child’s guardian, the rapper allegedly became confrontational during an encounter and lifted his shirt to reveal a firearm, saying he would “up that fire”—a slang phrase widely recognized in Memphis as a threat to pull a gun.

The woman told authorities she genuinely feared for her life, claiming that the rapper’s actions were not only aggressive but also chillingly deliberate. The situation quickly escalated into a legal nightmare, triggering an arrest warrant and raising serious concerns about Finesse2tymes’ conduct while on supervised release.

Attorney Pushes Back: ‘No Threat Ever Made’

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Finesse2tymes’ attorney, Carl A. Moore, has pushed back strongly against the claims. In a previous statement to TMZ back in January 2025, Moore firmly denied that Finesse ever threatened anyone. He expressed confidence in the legal system, stating:

“We’re confident this matter will be resolved justly once the state of Texas applies the applicable law to the facts.”

Moore has continued to stand by his client, arguing that the rapper has made genuine efforts to turn his life around after incarceration and was only trying to guide young talent like King.

A Rising Rap Career Overshadowed by Legal Troubles

Finesse2tymes has seen a meteoric rise in his music career since his release from prison. His raw, street-inspired lyrics, authentic persona, and Southern trap beats have garnered a loyal fanbase. Songs like “Back End,” “Humble,” and “Gucci Flow” (with Gucci Mane) have earned millions of streams, making him one of the most promising rap talents from Memphis.

His comeback story was even praised by fellow rappers and fans who admired his resilience. However, his recurring legal battles now threaten to derail that narrative, overshadowing the positive strides he’s made.

What’s Next? Upcoming Court Hearing

As of now, Finesse2tymes remains in federal custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 8, 2025. The hearing is expected to determine whether his alleged supervised release violations warrant a return to prison—or if the court will consider alternative actions.

Legal experts suggest that the combination of failed drug tests and violent threat allegations could result in a harsh outcome, especially given his prior record. If found guilty of violating his terms, he could face additional jail time, extending beyond his original sentence.

Public Reaction: Fans Divided Over the Rapper’s Future

News of Finesse2tymes’ return to federal custody has sparked heated debate across social media platforms. While some fans express concern over his repeated run-ins with the law, others are rallying behind him, insisting that the system is “too quick to punish Black men trying to change their lives.”

Many also believe more facts need to come out before judgment is passed. Supporters are urging people not to forget how far Finesse2tymes has come, while critics argue that “accountability matters,” especially when children are involved.

The Bigger Picture: Hip-Hop, Redemption, and Responsibility

The story of Finesse2tymes is just one example of a recurring trend in hip-hop: artists who rise from tough beginnings often face immense pressure to stay grounded and out of legal trouble. Mentorship programs, community support, and real rehabilitation resources are often lacking, leaving some to fall back into risky behavior.

Whether this is a case of misinterpretation or a serious breach of the law, the events surrounding Finesse2tymes are a stark reminder that fame doesn’t erase past challenges—it often magnifies them.

Final Thoughts

Finesse2tymes’ return to federal custody has reignited conversations about celebrity accountability, the challenges of reentry after incarceration, and the dangers of unresolved conflicts within the entertainment industry.

As the world awaits his May 8 court date, the future of his music career hangs in the balance. One thing is certain: the outcome of this case will likely define the next chapter in his complex, controversial journey.
