“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband Edward Osefo have been booked on criminal fraud charges, TMZ has learned. The couple, who were slated to appear in the premiere of “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition,” have now seen the episode delayed from October 14 to October 21, according to Variety.
A spokesperson for Wendy released a statement:
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
Details of the Allegations
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Wendy faces 16 charges, including 7 felonies for allegedly submitting false or misleading information in a fraud scheme exceeding $300. She also faces one misdemeanor for making a false statement to an officer.
The couple was booked Thursday night in Westminster, Maryland. The charges reportedly stem from an incident last April, when the Osefos claimed their bedroom was ransacked after returning from a trip to Jamaica. They alleged several designer bags and pieces of jewelry were stolen, reporting a total $450,000 personal property loss to their insurance company.
However, authorities allege discrepancies:
- Wendy was seen wearing a diamond ring she reported stolen in a social media post.
- Some items claimed stolen had been purchased and returned for full refunds prior to the alleged burglary.
Prosecutors contend these inconsistencies form the basis of the fraud allegations.

Wendy Osefo: From Academia to Reality TV
Wendy Osefo, who joined RHOP in Season 5, has had an impressive career outside of reality TV. She was a college professor of education at Johns Hopkins University before resigning in 2024. Connections and RHOP Drama
Wendy has longstanding ties with political figures, including Kamala Harris, as both women are members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
The Osefos’ arrests add to Bravo’s long history of legal drama among its cast. Karen Huger, Wendy’s RHOP co-star, was released from jail last month after serving six months for back-to-back DUIs. Bravo reality stars’ brushes with the law continue to keep fans talking and tuning in, adding a mix of scandal and intrigue to the franchise.
