Teyana Taylor Calls $70K Divorce Bill “Best Money Ever Spent”

Teyana Taylor is speaking out about her highly publicized split from former NBA star Iman Shumpert, and she’s making it clear that she has no regrets about the financial hit that came with it.

During a recent interview, the singer, actress, and creative director explained that the $70,000 she paid in legal fees tied to her divorce was “the best little coin I ever spent in my life.” Taylor emphasized that while the payment was significant, it gave her closure and freedom from ongoing legal drama.

“That was the best little coin I ever spent in my life because I never have to deal with this again,” she told hosts, reflecting on the peace of mind the payout provided.

    Why Teyana Had to Pay

The hefty sum stems from a contempt of court ruling earlier this summer. In July, a judge determined that Taylor violated a gag order after going live on Instagram in March to address rumors about her split and defend herself against allegations of trying to claim Shumpert’s assets.

As a result, Taylor was ordered to pay Shumpert’s $70,000 legal bill. Her own request to have Shumpert cover her legal fees was denied. However, one of Shumpert’s motions accusing Taylor of violating their parenting plan was dismissed, giving her at least a small legal victory.

    Turning Setback Into Peace

For Taylor, the ruling wasn’t a loss—it was an investment in her freedom. She framed the payout as a small price to move on from years of public speculation, allowing her to focus on her career and personal life without lingering court battles.

“Sometimes peace is more important than pride,” Taylor said, underscoring that the payment allowed her to finally close the divorce chapter and reclaim control of her life.

The reality star, singer, and entrepreneur explained that the financial hit was worth it to ensure that the drama surrounding her marriage and split would no longer interfere with her future.

    The Relationship & Legal Battle

Taylor and Shumpert married in 2016 and share two daughters. Their separation became public in 2023, and the legal proceedings have continued to make headlines well into 2025.

Despite the legal bumps along the way, Taylor appears focused on a fresh start, with her music, acting projects, and business ventures keeping her booked, busy, and thriving. She’s clearly putting the past behind her and moving forward with confidence.

    Fans React

Fans have praised Taylor for her grace and perspective, noting that her approach is both empowering and inspiring. Many lauded her ability to turn a costly legal setback into a stepping stone for personal peace.

“Teyana always finds the silver lining,” one fan commented online.
“This is why she’s a queen—peace over drama, always,” added another.

With her eyes firmly on the future, Taylor demonstrates that even high-profile legal battles don’t have to define her—or hold her back from success.
