The Tupac murder trial entered its second day Tuesday, with testimony from a former Las Vegas police officer providing a striking account of the rapper’s final moments after he was shot in 1996.

Duane ā€œKeefe Dā€ Davis is accused of helping plan Tupac Shakur’s killing and allegedly providing the gun used in the shooting. Prosecutors maintain that Davis was not the person who pulled the trigger.

Davis has pleaded not guilty to the charges and faces life in prison if convicted.

The trial is taking place in a Nevada courtroom nearly three decades after Tupac was shot while riding as a passenger in a BMW driven by Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight near the Las Vegas Strip.

One of the most notable moments from the second day came when a former police officer who accompanied Tupac in an ambulance following the shooting took the stand.

According to the officer’s testimony, Tupac refused to identify the person who shot him.

The former officer said the rapper indicated that his own associates would handle the gunman, adding another detail to the long-running mystery surrounding the killing.

Tupac was struck by multiple bullets during the September 1996 attack and died several days later at the age of 25.

The case against Davis centers on prosecutors’ allegation that he helped orchestrate the shooting following an altercation involving Tupac and members of his group earlier that night.

Davis has previously acknowledged being in the vehicle from which the shooting occurred, but he has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

The Nevada proceedings represent a major development in a case that remained unsolved for decades before Davis was arrested and charged.

As testimony continues, prosecutors are expected to present evidence aimed at establishing Davis’ alleged role in planning the attack, while the defense will have an opportunity to challenge that case.

For a murder investigation that has captivated hip-hop for nearly 30 years, the courtroom is now putting some of its most enduring questions under a microscope.
