Singer Tems Calls Off Rwanda Show Amid Regional Tensions

Nigerian singer and songwriter Tems has officially canceled her highly anticipated Born In The Wild Tour concert in Kigali, Rwanda, citing the ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo as the reason.

The show, which was scheduled to take place on March 22nd at BK Arena, will no longer proceed as planned.

In a heartfelt statement released via social media, Tems (real name: Temilade Openiyi) expressed regret for unknowingly promoting the event in a region currently facing unrest.

“I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing that there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never ever intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way.”

Tems Apologizes for Insensitivity, Expresses Solidarity

Tems acknowledged that she was unaware of the geopolitical tensions and expressed compassion for those affected by the situation.

“I simply had no idea this was going on. My heart goes out to those affected. Conflict is no joke and I truly hope and pray for peace in this time.”

Her statement has sparked a wave of reactions from fans, with some appreciating her acknowledgment and sensitivity, while others questioned how an international artist could be unaware of the political climate in a country where they were scheduled to perform.

    What’s Next for the Tour?

While the Kigali show is officially off the schedule, it remains unclear whether Tems will reschedule the concert for a later date or offer alternative performances in nearby regions. Fans in Rwanda have expressed disappointment over the cancellation but understand the complexity of the situation.

As the Born In The Wild Tour continues, Tems’ decision to prioritize global awareness over commercial success reinforces her image as an artist who values social responsibility.

    Will Other Artists Follow Suit?

With tensions still rising between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tems’ move could set a precedent for other international artists scheduled to perform in the region.

For now, her apology and call for peace have been well received, but the situation raises larger questions about how artists engage with global issues before scheduling performances.
