Babyface found himself in an uncomfortable moment on the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet when reporters abruptly shifted their attention to rising star Chappell Roan mid-interview.

The legendary singer-songwriter, known for his 12 Grammy wins and 54 nominations, was in the middle of answering a question when Associated Press reporters suddenly spotted Roan and cut him off to call her over.

Social Media Reacts as Babyface Gets Interrupted

A clip of the moment quickly circulated online, sparking outrage from fans who felt the music icon deserved more respect.

Roan, one of the night’s most nominated artists, had already stunned audiences with her performance of “Pink Pony Club” and was up for Album of the Year for “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.”

Despite the abrupt shift in focus, Babyface remained calm and composed, responding with:

“You guys wanna do that? Go do that.”

The journalists quickly apologized, but the moment had already ignited debate across social media, with many calling the exchange disrespectful to a music industry legend.

AP Reporter Issues Public Apology to Babyface

Following the backlash, AP’s Krysta Fauria took to social media to address the situation, offering a public apology:

“I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up, and there was a lot of commotion, as there is on these carpets. But I’m a big Babyface fan, as we all are, and I just wanted to apologize.”

While Babyface has not responded to the incident yet, fans online were quick to defend him, pointing out that his contributions to R&B and pop music deserved more respect and recognition.

Chappell Roan Wins Best New Artist, Addresses the Industry in Her Speech

Later in the night, Chappell Roan took home the Best New Artist award, delivering a powerful speech where she urged record labels to invest more in artists.

Ironically, in a previous interview with The Face, Roan revealed that she wasn’t hoping to win:

“I’m kind of hoping I don’t win. Because then everyone will get off my ass. ‘See guys, we did it and we didn’t win, bye!’ I won’t have to do this again!”

Fans Call for More Respect for Music Icons Like Babyface

While Roan had a huge night, the red carpet incident served as a reminder of how music legends like Babyface are sometimes overlooked in favor of newer artists.

With a career spanning decades, producing hits for Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Boyz II Men, and Mariah Carey, Babyface remains a pillar of the music industry.

His graceful response to the snub only further solidified his class and professionalism, proving once again why he’s considered one of the greatest songwriters and producers of all time. ????????
