A young man identified as Frank Ssempa is currently being held at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) on charges of impersonation.

Ssempa was apprehended in the Busoga region following a thorough crackdown on his activities. He is accused of impersonating renowned traditional healer Sophia Namutebi, popularly known as Maama Fiina. According to authorities, he created fake social media accounts using incorrect mobile numbers and conned unsuspecting victims by posing as her.

Ongoing Investigations and Maama Fiina’s Response

Authorities reveal that another suspect linked to the scam remains at large. Maama Fiina expressed her frustration over the fraudulent activities, stating that such actions have severely tarnished her reputation. She admitted that the persistent misuse of her name has discouraged her from continuing her philanthropic efforts to help the needy.

    Ssempa’s Plea for Forgiveness

While detained at CPS, Ssempa pleaded for Maama Fiina’s forgiveness, claiming that he was coerced into the act by a friend during a time of financial desperation.

In response, Maama Fiina issued a stern warning and instructed him to refund all the money he had fraudulently obtained from his victims. However, in an unexpected act of leniency, she offered him a chance for redemption by promising him a job at one of her establishments.

    Authorities Caution the Public

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters who use social media to impersonate prominent figures. Investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and bring all involved to justice.

Meanwhile, Maama Fiina continues to advocate for stricter measures against online fraud, hoping to prevent similar incidents in the future.
