Cardi B has a warning for people who are suddenly finding themselves famous: the spotlight comes with a lot more pressure than they may expect.
The “Aha Aha” rapper opened up about fame, scrutiny and the psychological challenges of celebrity life in Vogue Arabia’s September issue, reflecting on what happened after she achieved the level of success she once dreamed about.
Cardi said she takes pride in proving doubters wrong and reaching milestones that others had not.
“I have proven a lot of people wrong over and over and over again,” Cardi said. “It makes me feel good that I achieved things that nobody else did.”

But the rewards of fame have come with a reality she said she did not fully anticipate.
“That’s why they say to be careful about what you wish for because you just might get it,” she said. “Being a celebrity comes with a lot.”
Cardi added, “Sometimes I feel I didn’t apply for this.”
That pressure, she explained, can make celebrity life feel like a psychological battle. Constant public attention can make it difficult for stars to maintain a sense of privacy or prepare themselves for the scrutiny that comes with becoming widely known.
“You can’t really protect yourself,” she said. “You are never gonna be ready for this type of pressure, you know?”
Rather than prescribing one solution for handling fame, Cardi encouraged people to find healthy coping mechanisms that work for them. But she was particularly direct about one thing she believes newly famous people should avoid.
“You just gotta find a mechanism that works for you,” Cardi said. “But whatever mechanism you decide on, just don’t turn to drugs, okay?”
She acknowledged that dealing with celebrity pressure can be difficult.
“I know it’s hard. I know it really is,” Cardi continued. “Being famous is almost like a mental game.”
Cardi’s perspective comes from experience. She first built an audience through platforms including Instagram and Vine before joining Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015.
Two years later, “Bodak Yellow” transformed her career, establishing her as one of mainstream rap’s biggest stars. Her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, followed in 2018 and earned her the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2019.
Cardi later released Am I the Drama? in 2025, continuing a career that has combined commercial success with major cultural influence.
Now, her message to the next generation of stars is less about chasing the spotlight and more about surviving it.
For Cardi B, getting famous may have been the dream. Learning how to live with fame is the part nobody could fully prepare her for.
