Odell Beckham Jr.’s return to the New York Giants is already over.
The Giants released the veteran wide receiver Tuesday after just three games, bringing a swift end to his second stint with the franchise that made him one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
Beckham, 33, returned to Big Blue amid plenty of nostalgia, but his latest chapter never developed into the kind of on-field impact associated with his first run in New York.
The move gives the Giants additional roster flexibility while Beckham now becomes a free agent looking for his next opportunity.
Beckham originally joined the Giants as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of LSU.
He immediately became one of the league’s most recognizable young stars, winning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year after playing just 12 games.
His first New York stint included three consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2014 through 2016, along with two second-team All-Pro honors.
His spectacular one-handed touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys during his rookie season became one of the defining highlights of his career and remains one of the NFL’s most recognizable catches.
Beckham also reached several major career milestones, including becoming the fastest player at the time to reach 200 receptions and 3,000 receiving yards.
After leaving New York, Beckham spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins before eventually returning to the Giants.
His career has also included significant injury setbacks, but he reached another major milestone with the Los Angeles Rams, helping the team win Super Bowl LVI during the 2021 season.
Now, another chapter with the Giants has closed after only three games.
Beckham enters free agency once again, while the Giants move forward without the veteran receiver whose first New York run helped turn him into an NFL superstar.
The reunion may have brought back the memories, but this time, it lasted only three games.
