Jayson Tatum is bringing more of his personal story to the hardwood with the Jordan Tatum 5, the latest signature sneaker from Jordan Brand’s Celtics superstar.
Built around Tatum’s explosive cuts and fluid playmaking, the low-profile shoe combines lightweight mesh with sculpted support overlays and responsive Zoom Air cushioning.
But the Tatum 5 isn’t just about performance. Jordan Brand is using the sneaker as another canvas for Tatum’s personal storytelling, with colorways drawing inspiration from his family, St. Louis roots and championship ambitions.
One of the shoe’s key performance features is a dynamic utility strap designed to provide a secure fit without adding unnecessary bulk. A 10mm forefoot Air Zoom unit is positioned to deliver energy return, while a molded midfoot wrap and reinforced heel are designed to provide stability through sharp cuts and sudden stops.
The traction setup gets its own performance-focused treatment, with a HART 2.0 rubber herringbone outsole built for grip and precise footwork.
The design also includes a personal nod to Tatum’s hometown. His signature No. 0 appears on the heel in a reshaped form inspired by the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.
The first releases arrive in complementary “Sunrise” and “Sunset” colorways, drawing inspiration from the Boston skyline at dawn and dusk. The concept also reflects Tatum’s around-the-clock approach to his craft.
Speaking at a media event at Nike headquarters in New York City, Tatum explained how personal storytelling has become an important part of his signature footwear.
“It’s dope because most of the time you get to throw out colorways. And share things that are deeply important to you. Storytelling is huge, and when it’s organic, the consumer really feels that and understands it,” Tatum told HOT97.
He also credited Jordan Brand’s creative team for helping bring those ideas to life.
One example is the upcoming “Laser” colorway, which incorporates imagery connected to Tatum’s tattoos, including a championship ring and the chapel at Duke. It also features white calla lilies, which Tatum said are his mother’s favorite flowers.
“When people see those details, they can connect the dots and say, ‘Oh, I’ve seen that story before,’” Tatum said. “Bringing real moments from my life into the design is what makes the storytelling special.”
The Tatum 5 arrives as Tatum looks to lead Boston into a new era, with his return to peak All-NBA form expected to be central to the Celtics’ ambitions.
The Jordan Tatum 5 “Sunrise” is scheduled to launch September 24 in China, with a wider global and U.S. release expected during Holiday 2026.
