Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara has officially dropped her famous father’s last name.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a Los Angeles Superior Court hearing was held Tuesday on Zahara’s request to legally remove “Pitt” from her name. The request was approved after no objections were filed.
The 21-year-old had previously petitioned the court to change her legal name from Zahara Jolie-Pitt, but her filing did not state why she wanted to remove her father’s surname.
The name change comes amid reports of an ongoing estrangement between Zahara and Brad.
Sources previously told TMZ that Brad did not attend Zahara’s college graduation and did not contact her about the milestone. Sources close to the actor have blamed Angelina Jolie for the strained relationship, a characterization that has been disputed within the family’s broader history.
Zahara is one of Brad and Angelina’s six children. She was adopted by Angelina in 2005 and later adopted by Brad after the couple’s relationship began.
She is also not the first of their children to stop using “Pitt” publicly.
Shiloh has reportedly used the name Shiloh Jolie, while Maddox and Vivienne have also been publicly identified without their father’s surname.
Brad and Angelina’s family has remained under intense public scrutiny since their 2016 split, with the former couple spending years involved in legal disputes and disagreements surrounding their children.
For Zahara, however, the latest development is now official: a Los Angeles court has approved her request to remove “Pitt” from her legal name.
