Chris Brown has avoided immediate jail time after pleading guilty to affray over a 2023 London nightclub fight in which music producer Abraham āAbeā Diaw was struck with a tequila bottle.
The R&B singer appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, October 26, for sentencing over the incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, in February 2023.
The judge handed Brown an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. That means he will not serve the prison term immediately, provided he complies with the conditions of the suspension.
Judge Calls Bottle Strikes āPlainly Dangerousā
During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described how Brown approached Diaw while holding a tequila bottle and struck him on the left side of his head while holding his hood.
āThe repeated use of a glass bottle in that way, especially aimed at the head, was plainly dangerous; it carried the risk of delivering a more serious injury than was ultimately sustained,ā the judge said.
Court testimony indicated that Brown played a āleading roleā in the confrontation, which reportedly lasted around 20 seconds and was captured on CCTV.
Brown pleaded guilty to affray, an offence involving the use or threat of unlawful violence by multiple people in circumstances that would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for their safety. The conviction and sentence relate to that offence.

Co-Defendant Also Avoids Immediate Imprisonment
Brownās co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also pleaded guilty to affray and received a suspended prison sentence.
Akinlolu, who is known professionally as Hoody Baby and has worked as Brownās vocal coach, was involved in the same nightclub altercation.
The courtās decision means neither man is required to serve the prison term immediately, although a suspended sentence can carry consequences if its conditions are breached.
Case Dates Back to February 2023
The incident took place at Tape nightclub in Londonās Mayfair district in February 2023. Diaw, a music producer who was previously friends with Brown, was the other central figure in the confrontation.
Brown was arrested in 2025 at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester after arriving in the city for a concert on a private jet. The arrest came in connection with the London case.
The sentencing brings a major court development in a case that began more than three years ago. While Brown has avoided immediate imprisonment, the judgeās remarks underscored the potential danger of repeatedly striking someone with a glass bottle, particularly around the head.
