Ashanti Shines at 2025 BET Awards and Shares Sweet Update on Baby KK
Ashanti is embracing motherhood like a pro — with grace, hustle, and plenty of love. The R&B superstar lit up the red carpet at the 2025 BET Awards, dazzling in every way, but her heart was clearly back at the hotel with her 10-month-old son, Karem “KK”.
“Baby is doing amazing. He’s about to turn one, which is crazy,” she told People. “It just flew by. Navigating into mommy mode has been very different.”
Though little KK didn’t make a red carpet debut, he wasn’t far from his mom’s mind — or care. “I actually had to pump and send milk with the driver to the hotel for him, so talk about multitasking! Mommy has to make it happen!” Ashanti shared with a laugh.
Marriage, Motherhood, and a New Chapter
Ashanti and husband Nelly welcomed KK in 2024, and since then, she says her mindset has shifted completely. In a March interview with Revolt, she opened up about this powerful new phase of her life. “This is a new chapter for me. Family first — being married and having a child,” she explained. “My mind is thinking bigger, better, and more out of the box.”
That mindset is inspiring a whole new lane of creativity. Ashanti revealed she’s already written a children’s book and is leaning into content that reflects her journey. “I kind of want to just dive into the lane of children now. I really do because it’s so natural. I loved kids before… but now it’s like [times] a million.”
On Tour and in “Mama Bear” Mode
Ashanti is set to hit the road for the Bring It On Tour alongside Sean Paul and Fat Joe, but she’s not leaving her mom instincts behind. “I’m definitely in Mama Bear protective mode,” she said. “Wanting to protect the baby.”
Despite the demanding schedule, Ashanti is making sure her son is her top priority — proving that it’s possible to juggle fame and family with fierce determination. And what has KK already taught her? Just one powerful word: “Patience.”
