The Incident
Tucker was participating in the highly competitive relay race when I.C. Norcom senior Alaila Everett inadvertently struck her with the baton. According to Everett, the incident was not intentional. She explained that after a few attempts to hand off the baton, it got caught behind Tucker’s back and rolled up her back. In the process, Everett lost her balance, resulting in the baton striking Tucker.
Despite Everett’s claims of an accident, the consequences were severe, and Tucker’s injury has left her uncertain for future competitions, including the upcoming Nationals event. Tucker’s father, Keith, confirmed that the family had filed a protective order against Everett to prevent any potential future interaction between the two competitors, though Tucker’s participation in future events is still under consideration.
