Blueface was detained Sunday during an investigation into a reported shooting at a Santa Clarita restaurant, but the rapper was later released after deputies determined that no crime had occurred.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to King of Crab at around 5:27 p.m. after receiving a report of gunfire at the restaurant, according to authorities.
Blueface, whose legal name is Jonathan Michael Porter, was detained at the location while deputies investigated what had been reported.
The situation ultimately ended without criminal charges against the rapper.
Sgt. Josh Nemeth of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station confirmed Blueface’s involvement in the incident and said deputies completed an investigation after receiving the shooting report.
“Deputies responded, completed an investigation and determined no crime occurred at the location,” Nemeth told City News Service.
That determination meant Blueface was released from police custody later Sunday evening.
Authorities said there were no reported injuries and no additional arrests connected to the incident. Deputies also did not identify a suspect, weapon or victim following their investigation.
Officials had not immediately explained what triggered the original report of gunfire.
Importantly, the rapper was detained, not arrested, according to the supplied information. The detention was part of the investigation, and authorities ultimately found no criminal conduct at the restaurant.
That distinction is significant, particularly because no charges were filed against Blueface as a result of the incident.
The incident happened in Santa Clarita, where the 29-year-old rapper resides. Blueface has remained a prominent figure in hip-hop, known for songs including “Thotiana” as well as for the considerable public attention surrounding his personal life.
For now, the reported shooting investigation has ended without charges or further criminal proceedings involving Blueface.
The sheriff’s department has not released additional details about what prompted the original report.
