Boosie Badazz is under fire after attempting to honor hazing victim Caleb Wilson with a memorial scholarship during his 6th annual Boosie Bash Festival at Southern University. The star-studded event, which featured performances by GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and DaBaby, took an unexpected turn when the rapper announced the establishment of the Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship.
Boosie credited Caleb Wilson’s father for playing a key role in ensuring the festival wasn’t canceled. However, it appears the rapper’s efforts to pay tribute to Wilson are being met with serious backlash.
Parents Deny Giving Boosie Permission
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill issued a statement revealing that Caleb Wilson’s parents were unaware of the scholarship Boosie announced in their son’s name. According to Murrill, Wilson’s parents had not given Boosie permission to use their son’s name or image, nor were they even aware the event was taking place.
“Caleb Wilson’s parents have advised me that they have not given consent and know nothing about their son’s name and image being used to promote this event. They didn’t even know the event was happening. They have requested that his name, image, and any reference to a scholarship for him be removed from all promotional materials,” Murrill stated.
She went on to make it clear that legal action could be taken against Boosie for what she described as the misappropriation of Caleb Wilson’s name and image to promote a for-profit event.
“I intend to take legal action due to their misappropriation of his name and image to promote their for-profit event. This is not a charitable event,” Murrill added.
Caleb Wilson’s Case Draws National Attention
Caleb Wilson’s tragic death has garnered nationwide attention. Three individuals are currently facing manslaughter and criminal hazing charges, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Boosie’s decision to create a scholarship in Wilson’s name without the family’s consent has sparked outrage and potential legal repercussions.
Boosie’s Intentions Questioned
The Louisiana rapper has stated that his intention was to highlight Caleb Wilson’s story and bring awareness to the issue of hazing. However, the backlash he’s now facing suggests that his approach may have been misguided.
With Wilson’s parents expressing their disapproval and legal action potentially looming, Boosie Badazz’s efforts to honor the young student appear to have backfired.
What’s Next for Boosie Badazz?
As Boosie faces criticism over his unauthorized use of Caleb Wilson’s name, it remains unclear how the situation will be resolved. Legal action from Wilson’s parents could complicate the rapper’s plans moving forward, especially as he seeks to preserve the reputation of his Boosie Bash Festival.
