Chance the Rapper is taking a laid-back approach to love these days. In a candid chat with The Shade Room, the Chicago rapper opened up about whether he sees himself walking down the aisle again anytime soon.

“No, I just I just be chilling. You feel me? Like, I be chilling,” he said, signaling that marriage isn’t at the top of his priorities right now.

Although Chance respects the sanctity of marriage, he’s currently focusing on life, music, and personal growth rather than tying the knot again.

“I still respect it totally. You know what I’m saying? Especially ’cause that’s what the Bible says you’re supposed to do… Like, I ain’t gonna downplay it at all. But right now, I’m just figuring that life out,” Chance added.

    Life After Divorce

Last December, Chance finalized his divorce from longtime partner Kirsten Corley, ending nearly a decade-long relationship. The couple had married in March 2019, the same year Chance released his debut album, The Big Day.

The album, deeply inspired by his personal life at the time, coincided with preparing for marriage and fatherhood. While it debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, the project faced criticism for not fully resonating with listeners.

“I feel like with rap, especially, like you’re expected to tell your story and expected to also have stuff that connects with people. But we [are] all just humans,” Chance explained, reflecting on the pressures of balancing personal storytelling with mainstream appeal.

Despite the critiques, Chance continues to respect marriage and the values it represents, even if he’s not rushing into another one himself.

Chance Reflects on Hip-Hop Influences: Odd Future’s Legacy

Aside from personal life updates, Chance also opened up about Odd Future’s pivotal role in shaping modern hip-hop. The Los Angeles collective — which included Earl Sweatshirt, Frank Ocean, Syd, Hodgy, and Domo Genesis — changed the game by leveraging the internet to bypass traditional gatekeepers.

“Odd Future in a lot of ways helped birth a lot of careers,” Chance said.

By releasing music directly to fans, building their own brand, and embracing a DIY, rebellious ethos, Odd Future created a blueprint for artistic independence. Their shock-value lyrics and brash style grabbed attention, but beneath the chaos, they taught a generation of artists how to control their output, connect with audiences authentically, and sustain careers without relying on the industry.

Balancing Career, Personal Life, and Faith

For Chance, it’s all about balance. While he’s “chillin’” on marriage, he’s embracing fatherhood, focusing on music, and honoring his beliefs. Fans get a glimpse of his introspection and grounded perspective, reminding everyone that even globally successful artists are navigating life, love, and career in their own way.

“We’re all just humans,” Chance said — a simple but powerful reminder that behind the fame, rappers face the same struggles and decisions as the rest of us.

    The Takeaway

Chance the Rapper is taking a patient approach to love, learning from past experiences while continuing to influence the music world. Whether reflecting on his own life or paying homage to hip-hop innovators like Odd Future, Chance proves that authenticity, patience, and independence are central to both his art and personal journey.
