D.L. Hughley Slams Saquon Barkley for Visiting Trump at the White House: “Indifferent” to Black Issues

D.L. Hughley didn’t hold back when he weighed in on the Philadelphia Eagles players who accepted President Donald Trump’s invitation to visit the White House. Speaking on TMZ Live, the comedian specifically called out Saquon Barkley, the Eagles’ star running back, for attending the celebration — and he didn’t mince words.

Hughley, known for his outspoken opinions, made it clear that any Black person who chooses to visit Trump in the White House does not understand or care about the struggles facing the Black community. His remarks hit hard, accusing Barkley of being “indifferent” to Black issues and not paying attention to the problems facing African Americans today.

The Black Community and the White House Invitation

According to Hughley, he can always tell from a person’s demeanor whether they truly care about the issues affecting Black people. When it comes to Saquon Barkley, Hughley believes the running back’s actions speak louder than words, stating that Barkley looks like someone who simply isn’t bothered by these important issues.

Hughley’s harsh critique didn’t stop there. He also questioned whether it’s possible to separate the honor of a White House invitation from the individual who extends it, and his answer was a resounding “no.” He argued that Trump has tainted the invitation, claiming that the former president has shown a clear lack of respect for Black figures and history.

Hughley’s Strong Stance Against Trump’s Legacy

In his tirade, Hughley also criticized Trump for “erasing” prominent Black figures from history, such as Harriet Tubman and Jackie Robinson. He pointed to Trump’s refusal to apologize for his role in the infamous 1989 full-page newspaper ads against the Central Park Five, a case that is widely seen as a racial injustice.

Hughley’s words came on the heels of his ongoing push for Black people to hold public figures accountable, particularly when those figures hold positions of power. He believes that aligning with someone like Trump, who he sees as having disrespected Black people, sends the wrong message.

Saquon Barkley Defends His Decision

Despite Hughley’s strong condemnation, Saquon Barkley defended his decision to visit the White House. The running back explained that his visit was an attempt to show respect for the Office of the President. He claimed the invitation was an important milestone and that it was not about aligning with Trump’s personal views but honoring the achievement of the Eagles’ championship.

A Divided Opinion

While some may view Barkley’s decision as an opportunity to respect the office, Hughley’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among those who believe that, by visiting Trump, you are endorsing more than just the ceremonial aspect of the presidency — you are aligning yourself with a man who has often been at odds with the Black community’s values.

Hughley’s sharp words may have caused a stir, particularly because of Barkley’s prominence as one of the biggest names on the Eagles’ roster. Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown, two other key figures on the team, chose not to visit the White House, a stance that Hughley may view as more aligned with standing up for Black issues.

The Fallout: Will Barkley Respond?

While Hughley has been vocal about his thoughts, it remains to be seen how Saquon Barkley will respond to the comedian’s remarks. So far, there has been no word from Barkley regarding Hughley’s comments, but fans and critics alike are eager to hear whether he’ll engage in the conversation.

In the meantime, Hughley continues to speak his mind on his show, The D.L. Hughley Show, and make waves with his fiery takes on everything from race relations to political issues.

What do you think? Was Saquon Barkley right to visit the White House, or does D.L. Hughley have a point about the greater responsibility Black public figures have to their community?
