DeMarcus Cousins Booted From Puerto Rico League After Fan Brawl

DeMarcus Cousins, the former NBA All-Star known for his fiery temperament on the court, just found himself in the middle of a full-blown fan fight—and it’s already cost him his job. The 33-year-old center has been terminated from his Puerto Rican team, suspended for the season, and slapped with multiple fines after a volatile incident that erupted during a game on Monday night.

Caught on video: Cousins grabbed a front-row fan before being drenched with drinks by the crowd, sparking chaos and backlash that’s now gone global.

The Moment It All Went Down

The now-viral footage shows Cousins, who was playing for Mets de Guaynabo, exchanging heated words with a courtside fan. Tensions escalated quickly when Cousins physically confronted the fan, grabbing him during the shouting match.

Security rushed in and led the former NBA star toward the locker room—but not before things got even messier. Fans hurled drinks and other objects at Cousins as he exited, nearly triggering a second brawl. It took multiple personnel to restrain him from retaliating further.

Immediate Fallout: Fired, Fined & Suspended

The Mets de Guaynabo wasted no time cutting ties with Cousins, issuing a firm statement via the Associated Press:

“As an organization, we strongly condemn any form of violence or provocation, whether on or off the field. Safety, respect, and sportsmanship are non-negotiable values for this franchise.”

Not long after, the Puerto Rican National Superior Basketball League (BSN) handed down its own punishment:

    • Suspended for the rest of the 2025 season
    • Fined $4,250 for inciting violence
    • Threatened with an additional $5,750 fine, pending a formal response

“Given the severity of the incident,” the league added, “the player must show cause why further disciplinary action should not be taken.”

Fans Also Penalized for Role in Incident

The league didn’t just punish Cousins. Several fans involved in the melee were also banned for the remainder of the season, including:

    • One fan who made “inappropriate and inciting gestures”
    • Others who “threw liquids and other objects” during Cousins’ exit

It’s clear the league is trying to send a message: violent or provocative behavior from players and fans alike won’t be tolerated.

Cousins’ Career in Puerto Rico Ends Abruptly

Before this meltdown, Cousins was in his second season with the Mets and had been viewed as a marquee name bringing star power to the Puerto Rican league. His arrival brought headlines—and higher ticket sales—but now, his tenure has ended in disgrace.

He joins a growing list of NBA veterans attempting comebacks overseas, only to find themselves derailed by controversy.

Cousins’ NBA Legacy: A Career of Ups and Downs

DeMarcus Cousins, drafted 5th overall in 2010, spent 11 seasons in the NBA, including stints with:

    • Sacramento Kings
    • New Orleans Pelicans
    • Golden State Warriors
    • Los Angeles Lakers
    • Denver Nuggets
    • Houston Rockets
    • Milwaukee Bucks

Once seen as one of the most dominant big men in the league, Cousins’ career has been marked by injuries, clashes with coaches, and now, international fallout.

Despite his undeniable talent, Cousins has often made more headlines for his attitude than his stats.

Online Reactions: “Same Boogie, Different Court”

Social media has lit up with commentary on Cousins’ explosive behavior:

???? “Boogie hasn’t changed one bit.”
???? “This is why he’s not in the NBA anymore.”
???? “The league in PR just made an example out of him.”

    Others came to his defense:

???? “Let’s not act like fans aren’t out of control these days.”
???? “Security let it get out of hand. He was provoked.”

    What’s Next for DeMarcus Cousins?

It’s unclear what this means for Cousins’ basketball future. While he’s not currently signed with any NBA team, the suspension and negative headlines likely won’t help his case for a potential return.

His contract is terminated. His image, once again, is under fire. And now, the world is watching to see what he does next.
