New York City rap legends Hell Rell, JR Writer, and DukeDaGod are gearing up to remind the world why NYC remains the heartbeat of hip-hop. TMZ Hip Hop caught up with the founding Dipset members, who revealed that their long-awaited album, “Double Trouble”, isn’t just a new project—it’s a mission to restore the city’s signature rap sound while bridging past rivalries.
“We realized we’re the OGs now, and it’s on us to put music that sticks back on the map,” JR Writer explained.
“Double Trouble” – Decades in the Making
The album has been in the works for decades. With DukeDaGod serving as A&R and executive producer, the project promises authenticity for diehard Dipset fans. Hell Rell, JR, and Duke are collaborating with a mix of veteran NYC rappers and up-and-coming stars, aiming to capture the essence of the city’s signature grit and lyricism.
The trio credits Griselda—including Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, and Conway The Machine—for keeping classic NYC vibes alive in an era where drill music dominates the streets. DukeDaGod is tasked with supplying the beats that bridge old-school energy with modern sound, ensuring the album resonates across generations.
Can Dipset Heal Old Wounds?
The ongoing feud between Cam’ron and Jim Jones remains a sore spot for fans. While Jones previously suggested a Dipset reunion was unlikely, JR Writer says the group is staying neutral.
“We’re watching from the sidelines, but we believe the music will bring everyone together like the old days,” he said.
Fans are hopeful that “Double Trouble” could spark a reunion of NYC rap’s most iconic players, proving that even longstanding rivalries can be healed through music.
Honoring a Fallen Legend
Amid the excitement, the Harlem-bred trio paid tribute to fellow rapper Posta Boy, known for his legendary “106 & Park” Freestyle Friday appearances. Posta Boy passed away in October at age 43 after battling cancer.
“Respect to a legend. Posta Boy’s legacy will never be forgotten,” the group said, emphasizing the importance of honoring those who helped shape NYC hip-hop.
What Fans Can Expect
“Double Trouble” is positioned as more than just an album—it’s a celebration of NYC’s rap history, a nod to the past, and a bridge to the future. With the combined force of veteran Dipset energy and contemporary collaborations, the project could redefine the New York hip-hop landscape in 2025.
Fans are buzzing about potential features, throwback vibes, and the chance to witness NYC rap legends reclaim their throne.
“We’re doing this for the culture, for the fans, and for the city,” Hell Rell said.
