G Herbo is speaking from the heart as his hometown of Chicago reels from a tragic mass shooting that claimed four lives and left 14 others wounded.

The devastating incident occurred on July 2 during rising star Mello Buckzz’s album release party in the River North section of Chicago. A Black SUV reportedly pulled up outside the venue and opened fire, turning a night of celebration into chaos and heartbreak.

Among the victims were Mello’s boyfriend and three of her closest friends. The city has since shut down the lounge where the attack unfolded, as authorities continue their search for those responsible.

“This Is PTSD… It’s Too Close to Home”

While G Herbo wasn’t at the event, the tragedy has deeply affected him. The rapper opened up to TMZ Hip Hop while in New York City this week, revealing how the news has left him emotionally shaken.

“I’m feeling the PTSD!!!” Herbo confessed, his voice heavy with emotion. “The only thing the city can do right now is stay strong for Mello.”

Herbo, a longtime friend and collaborator of Mello’s, contributed a verse to her latest drill project Hollyhood, appearing on the second track.

The Shooting That Shook Chicago’s Music Scene

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as gunfire erupted outside the packed venue.

    • 4 killed
    • 14 seriously injured
    • 1 suspect vehicle seen fleeing the area

Chicago police have not yet named any suspects but confirmed they are pursuing multiple leads.

The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have rocked the city’s drill rap community, sparking renewed conversations about safety and accountability at hip-hop events.

Fans and Community React: “We’re Praying for Mello and Herbo”

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief and solidarity on social media.

    • “This is so heartbreaking. Prayers for Mello Buckzz and everyone affected. ????????”
    • “Herbo’s right—this is trauma on another level. Chicago needs healing.”
    • “When will the violence stop? These young lives were just starting.”

Herbo Balances Grief With Career Wins

Even as he mourns the violence in his city, G Herbo continues to make noise in the music world. His single “Went Legit” has become one of the hottest records of the summer, boosted by comedian Druski’s viral videos.

Herbo also features on Rob49’s remix of “WTHELLY,” which has been lighting up playlists and clubs nationwide.

But for now, his focus is on offering strength to Mello Buckzz and honoring the lives lost.

“The pain doesn’t just go away,” Herbo said. “We gotta support each other and find a way forward.”
