Issa Rae and the core cast of HBO’s “Insecure” have canceled almost the entire 10th anniversary tour, leaving fans with just one remaining date.
Rae announced the news in a comedic video posted to her HOORAE Instagram account, revealing that 12 of the planned 13 cities have been scrapped because of scheduling conflicts involving the show’s stars.
The tour was originally scheduled to begin Sept. 10 in Philadelphia and promised fans an intimate celebration of the beloved comedy-drama, including candid conversations and previously untold stories from the cast and creative team.
Planned stops included Washington, D.C., Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Atlanta and Houston.
In the announcement video, Rae was joined by Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell and showrunner Prentice Penny, with each cast member offering a humorous explanation for why the tour could no longer happen.
Ellis appeared to be filming his latest project, “The Rookie North,” while the others pointed to their increasingly busy schedules.
“Unfortunately, our schedules got messed up and we are so sorry, but we only wanted to do this if we could all be there and give you the best experience possible,” Rae explained.
Penny said the group was “bummed” about the cancellation but acknowledged that the scheduling problems came as the ensemble members successfully moved into new professional opportunities.
Rothwell, who went on to star in “How to Die Alone,” also joined in on the jokes surrounding the disappointing announcement.
“The tour ain’t happening, y’all. I’m so sorry,” she said.
The cast emphasized that they did not want to move forward without the full primary ensemble. Rather than offer fans an incomplete reunion, they decided to cancel most of the tour.
There is, however, one major exception.
The Oct. 8 event at YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, is still scheduled to take place.
The location carries particular significance for “Insecure” fans because Inglewood was central to the show’s setting and identity throughout its five-season HBO run.
“Insecure” became widely recognized for its honest and often comedic portrayal of Black friendship, relationships and life in Los Angeles before concluding its original run after five seasons.
For fans who purchased tickets to the canceled dates, refunds are expected to be issued through their original point of purchase.
While the anniversary tour has largely fallen apart, the cancellation also underscores how dramatically the lives and careers of the “Insecure” ensemble have evolved since the series ended.
The cast may not be able to take the planned reunion on the road, but for now, Inglewood remains the one place where fans can still expect the “Insecure” anniversary celebration to continue.
