JID Backs J. Cole Amid Kendrick Apology Debate

In a rap landscape where alliances shift overnight and public apologies trend weekly, JID is holding his ground — and holding down J. Cole.

As social media debates whether Cole owes Kendrick Lamar an apology for past lyrical jabs, the Atlanta rapper used a recent Joe Budden Podcast appearance to redirect the conversation. Instead of dwelling on diss tracks, JID spotlighted Cole’s leadership and long-term loyalty to Dreamville artists.

    The Dreamville Breakaway

JID confirmed what labelmate Bas hinted at in a separate interview with journalist Elliott Wilson: Dreamville has parted ways with Universal Music Group.

“They didn’t publicize it, but Dreamville sold Dreamville,” JID revealed.
    The key detail?

    • Revenue from the distribution deal was evenly split among artists — a move almost unheard of in the industry.

That, JID says, is a testament to Cole’s vision:

“Cole looked out for everyone involved with Dreamville. That’s one of the most admirable aspects of hip-hop. That’s a rarity.”

Not About Beef — About Values

While some fans expected him to weigh in on the Cole vs. Kendrick tension, JID dismissed the apology talk entirely.

“If we want to address the real issues in the industry, if we’re talking about an apology, then we should apologize 30 more times. That is the greatest person on Earth.”

He pointed to the profit-over-people mentality that dominates the business, noting how Cole’s approach bucks the trend — putting artists first and fostering a culture of trust, sustainability, and shared success.

JID has high praise for J. Cole & speaks on him sharing bread after the Universal deal:

“If we wanna talk about an apology, apologize 30 more times cuz that is the greatest dude on the fkn earth…That’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in music” pic.twitter.com/Z1gQRIEIjo

God Does Like Ugly and the Bigger Picture

JID’s comments arrive as his new album God Does Like Ugly gains momentum, adding weight to his public defense of Cole.

In an era where many labels operate as revolving doors, Dreamville’s stability has become part of its brand — a creative ecosystem where family comes before fame.

For JID, the real headline isn’t about rap beef — it’s about leadership in hip-hop that actually lasts.

    What do you think?
Is J. Cole’s approach to Dreamville proof that loyalty still has a place in the rap game?
