Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant didn’t hold back when reflecting on the Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring Kendrick Lamar. In an interview with Dana Scott on February 10th, Durant bluntly shared his disinterest in the performance, calling the day “boring” and admitting that he wasn’t invested in either the halftime show or the game itself.
When asked about the halftime performance, Durant didn’t mince words. “It meant nothing to me,” he said. “No thoughts — I didn’t really pay attention to it to be honest. It was a little boring day for a Super Bowl. The game got out of hand. The Super Bowl Halftime Show — I didn’t pay attention to it. I kinda skimmed through the whole thing, to be honest.”
Durant’s lack of enthusiasm toward the halftime performance could be attributed to multiple factors. First, as a devoted Washington Commanders fan, Durant was still reeling from his team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. That disappointment likely dampened his excitement for the Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Eagles, especially considering the Chiefs’ struggles during the game. Despite the 40-22 scoreline, the Eagles dominated, making the game feel more lopsided than the final tally suggested.
Additionally, Durant has long been a Drake supporter, and his connection with the Canadian rapper is well-documented. In fact, Durant even earned an A&R credit on Drake’s 2023 album, “For All the Dogs.” Given his strong ties to Drake’s music, it’s no surprise that Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance didn’t resonate with him as much. Durant, who spent time with Drake in Toronto last summer, has been vocal in his excitement for Drake’s latest project, a collaboration with PartyNextDoor titled “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U”, which dropped on February 14th.
Despite the lackluster Super Bowl experience, Durant’s comments highlight his candid and no-nonsense approach to entertainment. It’s clear that his loyalties lie elsewhere, especially with his ongoing support for Drake’s music, which remains a central part of his off-court life.
