Music legend Lionel Richie was forced to cut short his Minnesota concert after falling ill while performing in front of a packed crowd.

The incident happened during his performance at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul on Wednesday night, as he kicked off his latest tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.

Richie reportedly began feeling dizzy mid-performance, prompting concern onstage as the show came to an unexpected pause.

According to reports and social media footage from attendees, Lionel Richie was performing his hit song “Dancing on the Ceiling” when he appeared to become unwell.

As he moved across the stage, Richie began to slow down before eventually sitting down on a platform mid-song.

Despite the moment, he managed to finish the performance before addressing the audience directly about how he was feeling.

He reportedly joked about being “dizzy” and “strange,” adding that sometimes the best response in such moments is to “sit your ass down.”

However, the situation escalated shortly after the song ended.

Saxophonist Dino Soldo later appeared on stage to inform the audience that Richie was not feeling well and would not be able to continue the show.

The announcement marked an early end to the concert, which had been expected to feature a full setlist as part of his tour kickoff.

The St. Paul performance was the opening night of Lionel Richie’s new tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, a major co-headlining run featuring two legendary acts.

The tour includes 26 scheduled shows running through mid-August, with stops planned in major cities including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Richie, a Grammy-winning artist and former Commodores frontman, has remained an active live performer for decades, known for global hits like Hello, All Night Long, and Dancing on the Ceiling.

While no official update has been provided by his representatives at the time of reporting, the incident has drawn concern due to its visibility on opening night.

Tour kickoff shows are often high-pressure performances, setting the tone for weeks of live appearances across major venues.

Any health-related interruption involving a globally recognized artist like Lionel Richie naturally raises concern among fans, particularly when it occurs on opening night of a major tour.

The situation also highlights the physical demands placed on veteran performers who continue to tour extensively across large-scale productions.

Fan-recorded clips of the moment quickly circulated online, with many expressing concern and sending well-wishes to the music icon.

While reactions vary, the dominant sentiment across social platforms has been support and hope for Richie’s quick recovery as the tour continues.

No official statement from Richie’s team has been released at this time.

For fans in attendance, the moment shifted quickly from celebration to concern as one of music’s most recognizable voices appeared to struggle mid-performance.

Richie’s lighthearted attempt to joke about the situation showed professionalism, even as the show was ultimately brought to an early close.

As a veteran performer, the incident underscores the physical toll that long touring schedules can take even on established icons.

Lionel Richie’s Minnesota concert will be remembered less for its setlist and more for the unexpected pause that ended it early.

As his tour continues, fans will be watching closely for updates on his condition and return to the stage.
