Rapper Sexyy Red, born Janae Nierah Wherry, is facing a $5 million lawsuit filed by Nicole Barnes, the paternal grandmother of one of her children. The suit alleges that in December 2024, Sexyy Red shared Barnes’ home address and a photograph of her residence on Facebook, urging her followers to commit violent acts against Barnes.

    Allegations and Legal Proceedings

According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Barnes discovered on December 3, 2024, that Sexyy Red had posted her personal information online, allegedly encouraging fans to “kick in the door” and harm her. Barnes reported the incident to the police and subsequently relocated from Hazelwood, Missouri, due to safety concerns. She claims to have experienced emotional distress requiring therapy and is seeking $5 million in damages.

Barnes’ attorney, Steven Weaver, stated that attempts were made to resolve the matter privately, but Sexyy Red’s legal team did not take the situation seriously. “They thought it was a joke,” Weaver told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “And now they’re finding out it’s not.”

    Sexyy Red’s Rise to Fame

Sexyy Red, 26, hails from St. Louis, Missouri. She gained prominence in 2023 with her single “Pound Town,” produced in collaboration with Tay Keith. The track’s success led to a remix featuring Nicki Minaj, titled “Pound Town 2,” marking her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her follow-up single, “SkeeYee,” also achieved significant success, further establishing her presence in the hip-hop scene.

Throughout her career, Sexyy Red has collaborated with notable artists, including Drake on the 2023 single “Rich Baby Daddy,” which peaked within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. In 2024, her feature on Tyler, the Creator’s “Sticky” reached the chart’s top ten. Her bold lyrics and unapologetic persona have garnered both praise and criticism, contributing to her growing influence in the music industry.

    Personal Life and Public Image

Beyond her musical endeavors, Sexyy Red is a mother of two—a son born in 2020 and a daughter welcomed in February 2024. Despite her rising fame, she has maintained a relatively private personal life, with limited information available about her children’s fathers. Her public image is characterized by a confident and brazen demeanor, which resonates with many fans but has also led to controversies, such as the current legal dispute.

    Industry Reactions and Implications

The lawsuit has sparked discussions within the entertainment industry about the responsibilities of public figures on social media platforms. Legal experts suggest that this case could set a precedent for how courts address instances where celebrities are accused of inciting harassment online. The outcome may influence how artists engage with their audiences and manage personal disputes in the digital age.

    Conclusion

As the legal proceedings unfold, the entertainment world watches closely to see how this case will impact Sexyy Red’s career and the broader conversation about online conduct among celebrities. The situation underscores the potential real-world consequences of social media actions and highlights the importance of responsible online behavior, regardless of one’s public status.
