The mother of Robin Westman, the Minnesota shooter who killed two children and injured 18 others at Annunciation Catholic School, has reportedly hired criminal defense attorney Ryan Garry.

Mary Grace Westman is seeking legal guidance as she navigates the media frenzy and aftermath of her son’s deadly actions. According to FOX News, Garry confirmed that Westman is “completely distraught” and emphasized that she is not complicit in the shooting.

“She needs someone to handle all the media calls,” Garry told FOX.

    Limited Contact With Authorities

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara revealed that investigators have interviewed several friends and relatives of the shooter, but not his mother. He is reportedly pushing for her to agree to a formal sit-down with law enforcement.

Details regarding Westman’s father remain unclear, as O’Hara declined to comment on whether police have spoken to him.

    The Shooting and Aftermath

On Wednesday, Robin Westman opened fire at the Minneapolis Catholic school, targeting students from pre-K through 8th grade.

    • Victims included an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
    • Over a dozen others were injured.
    • Robin died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on X that the shooter was Robin Westman, born Robert Westman.

Investigators found a rambling manifesto, which allegedly contains racial and antisemitic slurs, references to previous mass shooters, and disturbing imagery, including a target drawn over Jesus Christ and a gun cartridge labeled “Kill Donald Trump.”

    Parental Accountability in Past Cases

Law enforcement and courts have previously held parents accountable for their children’s shootings:

    • In 2024, James and Jennifer Crumbley were convicted of involuntary manslaughter after their son Ethan Crumbley killed 4 students in Michigan. They were sentenced to 10–15 years in prison.
    • This year, Colin Gray faced 29 charges in Georgia for allegedly giving his 14-year-old son access to a gun, which was used to kill 4 people and injure 9 others.

Mary Grace Westman’s hiring of legal counsel may be part of a broader trend of parents seeking representation to navigate criminal and media scrutiny after such tragedies.

    Why This Case Is Significant

This tragic incident raises questions about:

    • Parental responsibility in mass shootings.
    • Mental health and school safety measures.
    • How families of perpetrators cope with public scrutiny.

As the investigation continues, authorities and the public are watching closely to see whether Mary Grace Westman will face any legal consequences.

    Next Steps

The case remains under investigation, with officials reviewing Westman’s role and potential legal exposure. Updates are expected as authorities continue interviewing family, friends, and associates of Robin Westman.

Stay tuned for the latest developments in the Minneapolis school shooting and legal actions involving the shooter’s family.
