Smokey Robinson is vehemently denying the sexual assault allegations brought against him by four former housekeepers, calling the lawsuit a baseless attempt to extort money from the Motown legend.
The lawsuit, which was filed by anonymous plaintiffs under “Jane Doe” pseudonyms, accuses Robinson of repeatedly raping the women while they were employed in his household. The women also allege that Robinson’s wife, Frances Gladney Robinson, was aware of the incidents and failed to take action to protect them.
In a statement to TMZ, Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, dismissed the lawsuit as a “media circus” and “an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon,” with a whopping $50 million in damages being sought. Frost emphasized that the legal team intends to file a motion to dismiss the case and plans to address multiple aspects of the allegations that he claims are inconsistent and implausible.
Frost also criticized the plaintiffs’ legal representation, pointing to a press conference held by the accusers’ attorneys, calling it “bizarre theatrics” intended to stir public sentiment and manipulate the media.
Robinson’s camp has vowed to provide evidence that will refute the allegations, urging the public to reserve judgment until all the facts are made clear. The case continues to unfold, and Robinson himself is expected to respond to the accusations directly in due time.
