Patrick Xavier Clark, the man accused of killing Migos rapper Takeoff, is seeking access to evidence in the case as he prepares for his upcoming murder trial.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Clark wants permission to review certain evidence currently in the possession of the Houston Police Department, including what he describes as the bullets connected to the fatal shooting.
Clark is asking for an independent expert to examine the evidence as part of his defense ahead of the trial, which is scheduled for November.
The request is part of Clark’s effort to scrutinize the physical evidence prosecutors may rely on in the case.
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnik Khari Ball, was fatally shot in Houston in November 2022. Clark was arrested the following month and accused of shooting the former Migos rapper in the head at a bowling alley.
Clark has denied involvement in Takeoff’s death.
The latest court filing does not establish what an independent examination of the evidence might reveal. Instead, it shows Clark’s defense is seeking an opportunity to have its own expert inspect evidence held by police before the case goes to trial.
The criminal case comes as Takeoff’s family is also dealing with a separate legal dispute. His parents have been involved in a civil battle over the division of money from a wrongful-death lawsuit settlement.
For now, the focus in the criminal case is back on the evidence — with Clark’s defense seeking a closer look before jurors hear the case in November.
