Tiger Woods Ruptures Achilles, Will Miss Most of Golf Season

Tiger Woods is facing yet another major setback in his career after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon, Yahoo Sports reported. The golf icon confirmed the injury on Tuesday (March 11), revealing that he underwent surgery and is now focused on recovery.

Tiger Woods Speaks on His Injury

In a statement posted on social media, Woods explained how the injury occurred while training at home.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote.

Shortly after, he underwent a minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair surgery performed by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Stucken added in the statement.

Now back home, Woods expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and assured fans that he is committed to his rehabilitation process.

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab. Thank you all for the support.”

    Woods’ Recent Struggles with Injuries

This latest injury adds to a long list of physical challenges Woods has faced in recent years. The 15-time major champion has been battling recurring back issues, undergoing multiple spinal surgeries. In 2021, he nearly lost his right leg following a devastating car crash in Southern California.

Last year, in September 2024, Woods underwent microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine to address nerve impingement in his lower back. Reports indicate that it was his sixth back surgery in the past decade.

    A Season of Missed Opportunities

Woods has yet to play a PGA Tour event this year. He was scheduled to make his season debut at The Genesis Invitational—a tournament he hosts annually—but withdrew following the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods. However, he has made appearances in TGL events in Florida with his team.

With this Achilles rupture, it is uncertain when Woods will return to competitive golf. His recovery timeline remains unclear, but given the severity of the injury, he is likely to be sidelined for several months, if not the entire season.

    A Golfing Legacy Still Intact

Despite his injuries, Woods remains one of the most decorated golfers in history. He has 82 PGA Tour wins, tying Sam Snead’s all-time record. Additionally, his 15 major championships put him just three behind Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18.

While this injury is a major setback, Woods has defied the odds before. Fans around the world will be hoping for another legendary comeback from the golfing great.
