Attorney Tyrone Blackburn is firing back at Fat Joe and his lawyer Joe Tacopina, claiming the duo orchestrated a public smear campaign to undermine a $20 million federal lawsuit. The explosive allegations, reported exclusively by AllHipHop, come amid one of the most contentious music industry legal battles of 2025.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Terrance “T.A.” Dixon, centers on claims of exploitation, sexual coercion, and unpaid labor. Blackburn says the defendants are manipulating law enforcement and media narratives to damage his credibility and derail the case.
“These actions not only prejudiced me in the eyes of the public and my peers but inflicted substantial personal and reputational harm,” Blackburn wrote. He added that the ordeal has forced him to undergo medical treatment for stress-related conditions.
The Core of the Legal Battle
The federal complaint, filed in June 2025, alleges that Fat Joe forced Dixon to perform thousands of explicit acts under threats of violence, while denying him compensation and songwriting credit. Fat Joe has repeatedly denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “disgusting lies” and labeling it an extortion attempt.
Tacopina, representing Fat Joe, responded with a countersuit in April, accusing Dixon and Blackburn of defamation, extortion, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Tacopina described the original lawsuit as “retaliatory fiction”, claiming Blackburn filed bogus pleadings containing AI-generated citations.
Controversial Arrest Heightens Tensions
The dispute escalated dramatically on May 12, when Blackburn allegedly struck a 66-year-old process server with his vehicle while court papers were being delivered. He was later arrested on charges including felony assault, harassment, and reckless driving.
Blackburn maintains that the arrest was a coordinated setup, stating:
“Defense counsel coordinated with law enforcement to secure my arrest,” claiming the incident was fabricated to damage his reputation.
Allegations Against Roc Nation
Blackburn also accused Roc Nation of assisting Fat Joe in concealing Dixon’s authorship rights and royalties, further complicating the high-profile case. Fat Joe’s legal team denies all wrongdoing, insisting that Dixon’s claims are fabricated to force a settlement.
Case Status and Next Steps
The legal battle remains active in the Southern District of New York, with hearings scheduled through late 2025 as both sides prepare for trial.
As this explosive dispute unfolds, the music industry and fans alike are watching closely. The case could have major implications for artist rights, legal accountability, and the role of celebrity influence in litigation.
