Drake has given fans another unreleased song to dissect — and one short lyric is already generating plenty of conversation.
During his hour-long FOMO short film, which premiered September 15, Drake briefly delivered the phrase “Pray for Gaza” on a dancehall-influenced track.
The moment appears around the 17:47 mark of the film and lasts only briefly, but the lyric quickly became one of the most discussed musical details from the project. Billboard also reported the appearance of the line in the unreleased song.
Drake has not announced an official title or standalone release date for the track.
And there is an important wrinkle: the exact meaning of “Gaza” in the lyric has not been confirmed.
One obvious interpretation is the Gaza Strip, particularly given Drake’s documented history of involvement with Artists4Ceasefire. In 2023, Drake signed the organization’s open letter calling for de-escalation and a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.
His longtime producer, Noah “40” Shebib, later said he approached Drake and his team about signing the letter.
That history provides context, but it does not establish what Drake meant by the new lyric.
There is another possibility tied directly to the song’s sound.
“Gaza” is also strongly associated with Jamaican dancehall through Vybz Kartel, whose Portmore movement has used the term as an identifying name. Complex noted that both interpretations are possible, particularly given Drake’s longstanding connection to dancehall and his relationship with Kartel.
The song itself reportedly leans heavily into Caribbean influences, with Drake using a Jamaican accent during parts of the performance. Billboard reported additional lyrics that reference “Gaza” alongside a reference to the “Worl’ Boss,” a nickname associated with Kartel.
That makes the lyric particularly interesting: it could carry more than one meaning, and Drake has not publicly explained it.
For now, “Pray for Gaza” remains part of the mystery surrounding FOMO, which features multiple pieces of previously unreleased music and arrives during Drake’s broader ICEMAN era.
Whether the track eventually receives an official release — and whether Drake clarifies the lyric — remains unknown.
Until then, fans are left doing what Drake’s surprise drops tend to encourage: listening closely and trying to figure out exactly what he means.
