Former fifth-grade teacher Laura Caron has pleaded guilty to a criminal charge after being accused of sexually abusing a young student and giving birth to his child.
Caron, 36, entered a guilty plea to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct, following charges filed against her in January 2025.
According to allegations outlined by prosecutors and reported by PEOPLE, the abuse began when the student was as young as 11 and continued for approximately four years.
A probable cause affidavit obtained by the publication alleged that Caron became pregnant with the student’s child and later gave birth. She was reportedly 27 when the alleged relationship involved the 13-year-old student.
As part of her plea agreement, Caron will surrender her teaching license and is expected to receive a five-year prison sentence. Her formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for January.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Caron will first undergo an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel, New Jersey, before beginning her state prison sentence.
“Before Caron serves her State Prison sentence, she will be evaluated at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel for classification to determine whether she is deemed repetitive and/or compulsive which could impact her sentence,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The evaluation will help determine her classification and could affect the sentence imposed by the court.
Following her prison term, Caron will also face lifetime parole supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The case has drawn attention because of the serious allegations involving a teacher and a student who was a child when the alleged abuse began.
Caron’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the criminal proceedings, although her formal sentencing remains pending.
