Comedian Chris Rock is reflecting on the mistakes he made during his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock, revealing that his frequent pornography use was among the personal habits he associates with that difficult period of his life.
During a new interview for GQ magazine’s Men of the Year 2026 issue, the comedian spoke candidly about his marriage, which ended in divorce in 2016, and acknowledged that he was not the husband he should have been.
“I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years,” Rock said.
The comedian did not explicitly explain how pornography affected his marriage or whether it directly contributed to the breakdown of the relationship. However, he brought up the habit while discussing his shortcomings as a husband and made clear that he is no longer proud of that chapter of his life.

Rock also reflected on personal growth, comparing his journey to that of a Marvel superhero who eventually learns to become less selfish and embrace a better version of himself.
Beyond his marriage, the 61-year-old comedian opened up about his diagnosis with nonverbal learning disorder and how it has influenced the way he understands his past behaviour.
Rock suggested that he previously blamed some of his difficulties connecting with other people on the unusual pressures of celebrity life.
“Mental illness and celebrity … it’s a weird combination there, because you think people are reacting a certain way because of celebrity,” he explained.
He added that he once believed his experiences made him exceptionally unique, saying he had used that perception to explain situations in which he struggled to connect with others.
The interview offers a more introspective look at Rock, who is widely known for his sharp comedy and public appearances but does not often discuss his personal struggles in such detail.
His comments also revisit a significant chapter in his private life. Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock were married for approximately 20 years before their divorce was finalised in 2016.
Rather than simply revisiting the end of the marriage, Rock’s latest reflections focus on his own behaviour, the lessons he believes he has learned and the personal changes he says he has made since then.
