BigXThaPlug was arrested in Dallas on Friday on DWI, marijuana possession and firearm charges, but the rapper was released in time to make his next scheduled performance in Iowa.
The 28-year-old artist, whose real name is Xavier Landum, was booked into the Collin County Jail on three misdemeanor counts: driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession of less than two ounces and unlawful firearm possession, according to authorities.
An Allen Police Department spokesperson confirmed the arrest.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed details about the traffic stop or what specifically led to Landum’s detention.
The arrest created an immediate scheduling problem for the rapper. He had been scheduled to headline Winnipeg’s Country Rising Festival in Canada on the same day.
Festival organizers subsequently canceled his appearance, saying BigXThaPlug could “no longer be able to perform” because of what they described as a “personal emergency.”
But the arrest did not keep him offstage for long.
BigXThaPlug was released from custody in time to travel to Des Moines, Iowa, where he performed Saturday at the Iowa State Fair.
Before the performance, the rapper posted a video telling fans he was on his way.
“Des Moines, Iowa, I’m on my way,” he said.
Once onstage, BigXThaPlug addressed the unexpected detention and suggested that some people had not expected him to make the show.
“They didn’t think I was coming,” he told the crowd, according to footage shared on social media.
He later described spending his time in Collin County praying and hoping he would be released in time to perform.
“When I was in Collin County, I was praying hard,” BigXThaPlug said. “I was like, ‘Please let me make it to Des Moines, Iowa.’”
The rapper also appeared to acknowledge the arrest on Instagram while promoting new music. His post featured his booking photo and included the message, “THAT SHIT LITE… ALBUM OTW…”
Friday’s arrest is not the first recent legal case involving BigXThaPlug in the Dallas area.
According to the supplied material, he was arrested in August 2025 following an album-release party on marijuana and firearm allegations. He also faced a marijuana possession case in Arlington, Texas, in February 2025.
As of Sunday, BigXThaPlug’s representatives had not publicly commented on the latest arrest.
For now, the rapper remains focused on his music schedule, having gone from a Texas jail cell on Friday to an Iowa State Fair stage the following day.
