Janelle Monáe didn’t hold back when she publicly called out Nelly during a star-studded Grammys after-party in Los Angeles.

At Andy’s in West Hollywood, the singer and actress took the stage alongside Anderson .Paak and delivered an impromptu freestyle that criticized Nelly for his controversial decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Janelle Monáe Turns “Hot in Herre” Into a Scathing Diss

Fresh off the Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena, Monáe and Anderson .Paak were in the middle of a high-energy set when Nelly’s 2002 hit “Hot in Herre” started playing. Instead of vibing along, Monáe seized the moment to flip the lyrics into a direct rebuke of the St. Louis rapper.

Before a packed crowd, Monáe rapped:

“I used to like Nelly, but then he performed for Donald Trump. Fk that. Nelly, you sold out. I used to think he was cool. Fk you. Get a new attitude.”

The crowd erupted, reacting to Monáe’s fiery takedown with cheers and shocked expressions.

    Monáe’s History of Outspoken Activism

A longtime advocate for social justice and LGBTQ+ rights, Monáe has been outspoken in her criticism of Trump and his policies. Her reaction was unsurprising, given that Nelly has faced backlash since choosing to perform at Trump’s event—a move that divided fans and the hip-hop community.

While many rappers distanced themselves from Trump, Nelly defended his decision, claiming that it was about patriotism, not politics.

    Nelly Stands Firm Despite Backlash

In a recent interview with NewsNation, Nelly addressed the ongoing criticism, stating:

“This is not a campaign trail. This is not about influencing people. It’s about the respect and honor of being invited to perform for what I like to call the greatest country on the planet.”

Despite the controversy, Nelly has remained unapologetic—but Monáe made it crystal clear where she stands.

Monáe’s Grammy Night: A Stunning Tribute to Quincy Jones

Beyond the after-party drama, Monáe also delivered a show-stopping performance during the Grammys. She paid tribute to Quincy Jones, honoring his legacy with a mesmerizing medley of Michael Jackson hits.

Dressed in signature MJ attire, she even moonwalked across the Grammy stage, proving once again why she’s one of the most electrifying performers in the industry.

A Night of Music, Drama, and Bold Statements

From historic Grammy wins to heated after-party moments, this year’s Grammys had no shortage of viral moments—and Janelle Monáe just made sure Nelly’s name stayed in the headlines.

With hip-hop’s political divide continuing to spark debates, one thing is clear—Monáe isn’t afraid to speak her mind. And after this explosive freestyle, it’s safe to say Nelly just found himself on her bad side. ????????
