Rick Ross’ son, William Roberts III, told police he was threatened at gunpoint and struck in the head with a firearm during an alleged assault near Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, earlier this month.
According to the account outlined in a police affidavit, the incident occurred on October 11 near the intersection of McLeod Avenue and Weaver Street. Roberts III reportedly was standing with a woman when a man approached in a gray sedan and confronted him.
The suspect, identified by authorities as 20-year-old Don Roberts III, allegedly pointed a tan handgun at the younger Roberts and threatened to kill him, referencing his famous father during the confrontation.
“I don’t care who your daddy is, I’ll kill you right here,” the suspect allegedly said, according to the affidavit. He then reportedly struck Roberts III on the right side of his head with the firearm.
Despite the alleged confrontation, Roberts III did not report the incident until the following day. He reportedly told investigators that he delayed contacting police because he was “in fear” after the encounter.
Roberts III, who is listed as a football player on Bethune-Cookman University’s 2025 roster, reportedly suffered minor swelling on the right side of his head. He declined medical attention at the scene, according to the account provided.
Investigators subsequently identified the suspect through a photographic lineup. However, city surveillance footage did not capture the alleged assault itself.
Although the two men share the Roberts surname, police confirmed they are not related.
Don Roberts III turned himself in to authorities on October 16. He faces felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the supplied report.
During a court appearance on October 19, the defendant entered a not-guilty plea. A bond hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, with the defense expected to request a $50,000 bond. Prosecutors reportedly indicated they would agree to the proposed bond terms.
The charges remain allegations, and the defendant’s not-guilty plea means the case has yet to be resolved in court.
Rick Ross, the multi-platinum rapper and founder of Maybach Music Group, has not publicly commented on the reported incident involving his son, according to the supplied information.
William Roberts III is the son of Rick Ross and Tia Kemp. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue processing evidence surrounding the alleged confrontation.
For now, the legal proceedings will determine how the case moves forward, while the allegations remain subject to the court process.
