Dolly Parton was a singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman. She rose to fame in 1967, performing as a duet partner with Porter Wagoner on The Porter Wagoner Show, before releasing her first solo hit, “Joshua,” in 1970. Her other popular hits included “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene” and “Here You Come Again.” Parton also found success on the big screen, with notable roles in 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. In 1975 and 1976, she was named the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year, and in 1978, she was named Entertainer of the Year. Parton was also a co-owner of the Tennessee theme park resort Dollywood and was widely celebrated for her philanthropy, including her Imagination Library literacy program. Parton died on Aug. 25, 2026, at age 80, leaving behind a decades-long legacy in music, entertainment and philanthropy.
